Суммируя всю эту критику, можно задать вопрос: чем же занимается наш методолог? Он ослабляет методологические правила всякий раз, когда ему показывают, что их строгий вариант приходит в противоречие с научной практикой; примеры из истории он критикует, опираясь на своепредставление о существе дела; он не признает результатов более сложных аргументов (которые ему неизвестны), ссылаясь на то, что «безусловно» возможны иные истолкования; он защищает далекие от реальности теории рациональности и научных изменений, отказываясь описывать достижения в их терминах (противоречивые теории могут быть плодотворными, однако они не являются «рациональными»), и он вообще часто прибегает к простой игре словами (Аристотель не является «научным»). Учитывая то обстоятельство, что многие люди заняты столь же интересными вещами, мы должны признать, что методология все еще хорошо живет, причем даже в Лондонской школе экономики, однако это не та жизнь, которую можно было бы пожелать разумному человеку.
