And just at this moment, as though he had heard the uproar outside. Boxer's face, with the white stripe down his nose, appeared at the small window at the back of the van. ' Boxer!' cried Clover in a terrible voice.	- Боксер! - закричала Кловер страшным голосом.

They are taking you to your death!'	Они везут тебя на смерть!
All the animals took up the cry of	Все животные подняли крик:
' Get out. Boxer, get out!'	"Прыгай, Боксер, прыгай!"
But the van was already gathering speed and drawing away from them.	Но фургон уже набрал скорость и оторвался от них.
It was uncertain whether Boxer had understood what Clover had said.	Осталось неясным, понял ли Боксер, что ему хотела сказать Кловер.
But a moment later his face disappeared from the window and there was the sound of a tremendous drumming of hoofs inside the van.	Но он исчез из заднего окошечка, и внутри фургона раздался грохот копыт.
He was trying to kick his way out.	Боксер пытался вырваться на свободу.
The time had been when a few kicks from Boxer's hoofs would have smashed the van to matchwood.	Были мгновения, когда казалось - еще несколько ударов, и под копытами Боксера фургон разлетится в щепки.
But alas! his strength had left him; and in a few moments the sound of drumming hoofs grew fainter and died away.	Но увы! - силы уже покинули его, и звук копыт с каждым мгновением становился все слабее, пока окончательно не смолк.
In desperation the animals began appealing to the two horses which drew the van to stop.	В отчаянии животные попытались обратиться к двум лошадям, тащившим фургон.
' Comrades, comrades!' they shouted.	"Товарищи! Товарищи! - кричали они.
'Don't take your own brother to his death!'	- Вы же везете на смерть своего брата!"
But the stupid brutes, too ignorant to realise what was happening, merely set back their ears and quickened their pace.	Но тупые создания, слишком равнодушные, чтобы понять происходящее, лишь прижали уши и ускорили шаг.
Boxer's face did not reappear at the window.	Боксер больше не появлялся в окошечке.
Too late, someone thought of racing ahead and shutting the five-barred gate; but in another moment the van was through it and rapidly disappearing down the road.	Слишком поздно спохватились животные, что можно было помчаться вперед и запереть ворота. Фургон уже миновал их и быстро исчез за поворотом дороги.
Boxer was never seen again.	Никто больше не видел Боксера.
Three days later it was announced that he had died in the hospital at Willingdon, in spite of receiving every attention a horse could have.	Через три дня было объявлено, что он умер в госпитале Уиллингдона, несмотря на все усилия, которые прилагались для спасения его жизни.
Squealer came to announce the news to the others.	Визгун явился рассказать всем об этом.
