«Свинья»: Говорят, что духи умерших могут принимать любой облик: животных – например, свиньи, как в этом рассказе; шаровых молний и огней; людей и призрачных фантомов. Некоторые духи вообще предпочитают оставаться невидимыми и сообщают о своем присутствии лишь звуками и действиями.

История женщины, вернувшейся с того света в облике свиньи, адаптирована из канадской страшилки с острова Принца Эдуарда. См. Creighton, p. 206.

«Вам нехорошо?»: Это расширенный вариант афроамериканской истории, опубликованной в «The Ghosts of New York». В оригинале «чудище» оказывается беглым сумасшедшим убийцей. Когда он нагоняет испугавшегося мужчину, то кричит: «Тебе водить!» См. Schwartz, Tomfoolery, p. 93, p. 116.
