But here I took pity on my visitor’s suspense (но тут я сжалился над тревожным ожиданием моего гостя; suspense – неизвестность, неопределенность; беспокойство; тревога ожидания), and some perhaps on my own growing curiosity (и, возможно, над своим /собственным/ растущим любопытством).

But here I took pity on my visitor’s suspense, and some perhaps on my own growing curiosity.

“There it is, sir (вот он, сэр)
