Soon the fight started, and the two men were quick and skilled in staff fighting. Each tried to hit the other and beat him, but each was very quick to stop the other's strike with his own staff.

They fought bravely for an hour, their staffs moving, hitting, and defending very fast.

At last Robin Hood managed to hit the big man on the head (в конце концов Робину Гуду удалось ударить высокого мужчину по голове; to manage – руководить, управлять; ухитриться, суметь сделать /что-либо/). At last Robin Hood managed to hit the big man on the head. Robin Hood started to laugh, but it was too soon to laugh! The big man's staff came down suddenly on Robin's staff so fiercely that it broke, since it was still too green. Robin tripped over the side of the bridge and fell into the river.

The huge man looked at him smiling (великан: «огромный мужчина» взглянул на него, улыбаясь). Then he called out (затем он выкрикнул), “Are you hurt (ты не ранен; to hurt – причинить боль, ранить, ушибить)? Luckily, Robin Hood had a strongly built body, so he wasn't hurt (к счастью, у Робина Гуда было крепко сложенное тело = было крепкое телосложение, поэтому он не был ранен; luck – фортуна, судьба; везение, удача, успех; to build – сооружать, строить). As he climbed up the river bank, he was laughing (когда он вылез: «вскарабкался» на берег реки, он смеялся). He said (он сказал), “It was a good fight (это была хорошая схватка). You are really a brave strong man (ты действительно храбрый и сильный человек). How can I help you

The huge man looked at him smiling. Then he called out, “Are you hurt? Do you want help?”

Luckily, Robin Hood had a strongly built body, so he wasn't hurt. As he climbed up the river bank, he was laughing. He said, “It was a good fight. You are really a brave strong man. How can I help you?”
