Mills и соавт. [109] подтвердили ЭМГ-исследованиями прекращение судорог икроножных мышц при назначении чрескожной стимуляции нервов. Судороги икроножных мышц были вызваны произвольным подошвенным сгибанием у атипичного больного, у которого отмечали «спящую» ЭМГ-активность в мышце и мышечную гипертрофию.

Электростимуляция чувствительных нервов во время растягивания мышцы также оказалась эффективной для предотвращения судорог [88].
