Сказка о царе Салтане

Stared at him voraciously.	Четырьмя все три глядят.
Tsar Saltan, with royal grace,	Царь Салтан гостей сажает
Gave the merchants each his place.	За свой стол и вопрошает:
Then he said: "Now, masters mine-	"Ой вы, гости-господа,
Sailed you far across the brine?	Долго ль ездили? куда?
Are things well where you have been?	Ладно ль за морем, иль худо?
What strange wonders have you seen?"	И какое в свете чудо?"
Quoth the merchants:	Корабельщики в ответ:
"If you please, We have sailed the seven seas.	"Мы объехали весь свет;
Peace reigns overseas, serene.	За морем житье не худо,
There, we saw this wondrous scene:	В свете ж вот какое чудо:
On an island, far away,	Остров на море лежит,
Stands a city grand and gay-	Град на острове стоит,
Churches tall with golden domes,	С златоглавыми церквами,
Gardens green, and stately homes.	С теремами и садами;
Near its palace grows a fir In whose shade, O royal sir,	Ель растет перед дворцом,
Stands a crystal house; and there	А под ней хрустальный дом;
Dwells a squirrel strange and rare,	Белка в нем живет ручная,
Full of frolic; all day long,	Да чудесница какая!
Cracking nuts, its sings a song.	Белка песенки поет Да орешки всё грызет;
Nuts, most wondrous to bekold-	А орешки не простые,
Shells of purest yellow gold,	Скорлупы-то золотые,
All its kernels- emeralds bright.	Ядра - чистый изумруд;
Sentries guard it day and night.	Белку холят, берегут.
There we saw another wonder-	Там еще другое диво:
Every morn, the breakers thunder	Море вздуется бурливо,
And the waves, with mighty roar,	Закипит, подымет вой,
Overflow the barren shore,	Хлынет на берег пустой,
Leaving, wonderful to see,	Расплеснется в скором беге, И очутятся на бреге, В чешуе, как жар горя,
Thirty stalwart knights and three.	Тридцать три богатыря,
Each one brave beyond compare,	Все красавцы удалые,
Tall of stature, young and fair.	Великаны молодые,
