OSIP [outside the door, where he is heard speaking].	Осип (выходит и говорит за сценой).
Say, partner, go to the post office and mail a letter, and tell the postmaster to frank it.	Эй, послушай, брат!
And have a coach sent round at once, the very best courier coach; and tell them the master doesn't pay fare. He travels at the expense of the government.	Отнесешь письмо на почту, и скажи почтмейстеру, чтоб он принял без денег; да скажи, чтоб сейчас привели к барину самую лучшую тройку, курьерскую; а прогону, скажи, барин не плотит: прогон, мол, скажи, казенный.
And make them hurry, or else the master will be angry.	Да чтоб все живее, а не то, мол, барин сердится.
Wait, the letter isn't ready yet.	Стой, еще письмо не готово.
KHLESTAKOV.	Хлестаков (продолжает писать).
I wonder where he lives now, on Pochtamtskaya or Grokhovaya Street.	Любопытно знать, где он теперь живет - в Почтамтской или Гороховой?
He likes to move often, too, to get out of paying rent.	Он ведь тоже любит часто переезжать с квартиры и недоплачивать.
I'll make a guess and send it to Pochtamtskaya Street. [Folds the letter and addresses it.]	Напишу наудалую в Почтамтскую. (Свертывает и надписывает.)
Osip brings the candle.	Осип приносит свечу.
Khlestakov seals the letter with sealing wax.	Хлестаков печатает.
At that moment Derzhimorda's voice is heard saying:	В это время слышен голос Держиморды:
"Where are you going, whiskers?	"Куда лезешь, борода?
You've been told that nobody is allowed to come in."	Говорят тебе, никого не велено пускать".
KHLESTAKOV [giving the letter to Osip]. There, have it mailed.	(Дает Осипу письмо.) На, отнеси.
MERCHANT'S VOICE.	Голоса купцов.
Let us in, brother.	Допустите, батюшка!
You have no right to keep us out. We have come on business.	Вы не можете не допустить: мы за делом пришли.
DERZHIMORDA'S VOICE.	Голос Держиморды.
Get out of here, get out of here!	Пошел, пошел!
He doesn't receive anybody. He's asleep.	Не принимает, спит.
The disturbance outside grows louder.	Шум увеличивается.
