They'd got plenty to eat without that, hadn't they?	И без этого господа с голоду не помрут.

Plenty without her bothering to cut tomato or foie gras sandwiches. She'd got other things to think about.	Обойдутся и без бутербродов. Некогда ей было кромсать сало да помидоры, и все тут.
Fair temper Mrs Crump was in, all because Mr Crump had gone out this afternoon.	А миссис Крамп чуть не лопнет от злости, и все потому, что мистер Крамп куда-то уехал.

Quite right of him, Gladys thought.	Правильно сделал, что уехал.
Mrs Crump called out from the kitchen: "The kettle's boiling its head off. Aren't you ever going to make that tea?"	- Чайник кипит, вот-вот крышка отвалится! -крикнула из кухни миссис Крамп. - Будешь ты этот чертов чай готовить или нет?
"Coming."	- Бегу.
She jerked some tea without measuring it into the big silver pot, carried it into the kitchen and poured the boiling water on it.	Кинув на глаз горстку чая в большой заварной чайник, она вылила в него кипяток.
She added the teapot and the kettle to the big silver tray and carried the whole thing through to the library where she set it on the small table near the sofa.	Поставила оба чайника на внушительный серебряный поднос и понесла его через весь дом в библиотеку, где водрузила на столик около дивана.
She went back hurriedly for the other tray with the eatables on it.	И сразу же - за другим подносом, на котором стояло сладкое.
She carried the latter as far as the hall when the sudden jarring noise of the grandfather clock preparing itself to strike made her jump.	В холле она едва не выронила поднос из рук - это неожиданно заурчали старинные часы, готовясь отбить четверть часа.
